Building Design Affects The Human Body

“Houses are like the human beings that inhabit them.”
– Victor Hugo

Our home’s building design is an active participant in our homeostasis. It affects our health and mental outlook on a daily basis. When a client comes to me with a health condition, depending on the ailment, I will look at anyone of the following systems of the house and inquire into its condition.

An example of how the mechanical, electrical, plumbing – all the building design works together. If you are sick or a family member, look at the mechanical, electrical, plumbing – all the systems of the house. Draw an outline of the body onto the house and put the head (face down) at the front door then locate the heart in the house. Where the heart lands in the house correct that system, not just the plumbing which is associated with the circulatory system. Address  flooding in the house, even the basement because these will affect the circulatory system.

• Main Entrance and foyer correspond to the head.

• Electrical wiring corresponds to the nervous system.

• Plumbing corresponds to circulatory system, circulation of the blood.

• Sewage System relates to the urinary tract, guts, digestive system–stomach, large intestine.

• Respiratory corresponds air conditioning, ducts, chimneys, sky lights,

• Roof and Beams correspond to the spine.

• Four corners of the house or lot correspond to the four limbs. Front corners would be the arm, the back corners would be the legs and feet.

Feng Shui Breakthrough To Happiness

“Happiness is the highest form of health.”
H.H. The Dalai Lama

Grace contacted me in the early spring of this year, she shared that an intuitive friend suggested she have a Feng Shui consultation. “Current issues in the house may have impacted my health and changes could support regaining my energy.” We talked and she revealed that the previous owners had divorced and the husband had died of cancer. Grace shared about herself that she has always been an optimistic woman and loves to decorate her homes. She had made cosmetic changes to her current house, painted the walls, refinished the floors, updated the kitchen, landscaped the yard but she couldn’t shake the uneasiness of vertigo that left her with poor balance, extreme fatigue, depression and not feeling in her body. When I came to the consultation she disclosed her western doctor wanted to perform exploratory surgery on her left breast. She was not happy about it.

Even before I walked in the door, the lot diagram and the floor plan told me a person living here, unless they had an exceedingly strong constitution, would encounter a health crisis. In the Chinese language  “4” sounds like death and the street numbers contained a 4. She had removed the master bathroom door that was connected to the master bedroom thus creating an “empty door” and her digestive issues flared. After a series of vertigo attacks she sought the help of an ND who advised her to make diet changes to address the dizziness. The head of her bed backed up to the stove which adversely affects the physical health of the brain. The corner of a wall from the home office to the hallway creates a “split view” and can create illness along the midline, confusion and the inability to make decisions. Grace’s gut was the key to addressing the vertigo but feeling like herself was taking longer than she wanted and she was feeling depressed. Many doors in a small space create digestive issues. There were at least five markers in her home that suggested her conditions and for her it became a health crisis. The final note: Grace had a painting in the center, the Health gua, that is visible upon entering the house. The composition and color mirrored the grief, distress and hopelessness that was overshadowing her life. By the time she called me she was ready to listen to her “gut” and change her situation. She embraced the cures with humor and courage and here is what she wrote three months later.

“Just wanting you to know how delighted I am as I make my way through the house with the cures. It’s taking time, but it seems to be working. Last weekend I was on the coast and bought a big splurge painting — haven’t done this in 40 years literally! When I brought it home, I was not just needing to remove the painting you suggested should not be in my entry but to rip almost everything off the walls — like a crazy woman, so different from the typical me. I was totally compelled to do this in such a strong and irresistable way that I couldn’t believe it. All this to say it feels so light and open from inside my chest. The new painting is a wonder to me, all movement and joy (impressionistic wave) with lovely light colors. I simply feel lifted every time I look at it. So this house is getting little facelifts and cures left and right in a kind of claiming it that is deeper than ever before. There’s more to do, but I’m pecking away at it.

Oh, did I mention that I feel 100% better. I have a Chinese practitioner and a new naturopath, and what they’ve done has been phenomenal, but I consider the house energies, the Feng Shui, being free to circulate as they should a huge contributor to my improved health. So, once again, thank you!!”

If you are experiencing health issues, I want you to have the opportunity to change that around. Here is one of my favorite cures handed down from H.H. Lin Yun. Hang a 50mm crystal from a red cord in the center of the bedroom. It has a clarifying effect on your mind. It is helpful if your bed is not in a good placement in the bedroom. In particular it will help your health. Visualize you maintain good health and if a problem arises you receive an intuitive message before anything serious arises.

The seen and the unseen are both relevant to your home, your choices and your sense of peace. Give equal value to influence of each one and your life will seek its level of balance.

Have you decided this will be your year? “Boldness has genius”…start with one hour of Feng Shui A La Carte. Think of it as a fairy godmother for your house.

The Power To Heal: Feng Shui Sound Bites For Better Health.

“The first wealth is health.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson

1 in 3 people will get cancer in their lifetime. If you are reading this, either you have cancer, are in remission, have a relative who is living with cancer or know a friend with cancer. It has become inescapable in the 21st century. I lost two sisters to cancer. When I heard about the eleven part docu-series, “The Truth About Cancer” I knew immediately I wanted to watch the series in its entirety. Ty Bollinger interviewed 28 doctors, 11 Scientists, 9 Survivors and 1 Attorney across the United States and Mexico. They discuss the environmental causes of cancer, why it is now a pandemic and protocols for preventing and treating cancer. Robert Scott Bell, D.A. Hom., homeopathic physician interviewed on TQTC, produces and hosts an internet program, “The Power To Heal Is Yours”. His mission is to empower his audience through talking about the politics associated with health, the environment, and available healing modalities, among those, non-invasive cancer therapies. Taking on “the power to heal” mission, my intention is to empower you through sharing Feng Shui adjustments that create positive Ch’i and support a positive lifestyle so you can minimize illness and live a healthy life.

Feng Shui is too often an infrequent part of a health regime due largely to consultants’ education efforts being ignored. In 2013 cancer was declared an epidemic in the U.S. Most causes of cancer stem from our environment–inside our home and beyond our four walls. We can no longer afford to turn our back on the environment that affects our health. I have discovered when I help clients address confusion, anger, wandering Ch’i, accidents, instability and insecurity through adjusting the design details in their home, I help them address major Ch’i depletion. Why is this important? Ch’i depletion becomes fatigue. When it become chronic fatigue, it compromises the immune system and a compromised immune system does not have the resilience to overcome illness including cancer. A home where the Feng Shui has been corrected is an environment that has life force and vitality. When design features that affect one’s thinking and emotions are addressed, the occupants have mental clarity, awareness and are better able to recognize the nuances of ill health before it morphs into a disease that runs away with their money and peace of mind.

My belief is these Feng Shui Sound Bites will increase your awareness that health is holistic and that you can do something about it. The actions I have included will help your home support you. The list is by no means complete. There is much more to this body of Feng Shui health than I could include here so I designed this sampler to inform you how to start the process of addressing your’s or a loved one’s health concerns holistically, from the ground up.

  • When Illness Is Chronic. To help end chronic illness, remove dead plants from around the front door. This is especially a detriment to good health for older folks. Also perform Adjusting the Sediment. If the occupant has a chronic depression, use the colors apple green or reddish purple.
  • When Illness Is Constant. If you are ill all the time this will help to end the cycle. Check to see if you have the following: two windows opposite one another with the bed in between, if so adjust this. Two doors opposite one another with the bed in between. A window and a door opposite one another with the bed in between. Adjust a bathroom over a kitchen, especially if the toilet is directly above the stove.
  • When Illness Is Caused By The Environment. To reduce your sensitivity to toxins in the environment, plant a garden. Your Ch’i will be enhanced by the surrounding green and lush vegetation.
  • When Illness Is Fluctuating. When you get well but get sick again, get well and sick again and it never seems to end, adjust a building or residence with many levels. Adjust a stairway in the center.
  • When Illness Is Cancer. H. H. Lin Yun advised to never use Feng Shui as the sole means to address a health issue. He would always say: find a doctor who is a specialist. Seek a second opinion. Seek a doctor of Oriental medicine. If all of this fails, or as a reference, seek holistic healing. A powerful and effective transcendental cure he shared: visualize the auspicious Ch’i of the Six True Colors (white, red, yellow, green, blue, black) entering every cancer cell in the body. Visualize every cell turning back to normal. Complete with The Three Secrets which are three things you do with your body: hold a mudra (Like the Calming Heart mudra or prayer mudra), mind (visualize what you wish to accomplish) and speech (say a mantra like the Six True Words or say a prayer from your tradition) to complete this visualization. Adjust the front door by adding nine vital plants to this area. It may help someone who has cancer. A transcendental method is the Three Flute Method (placing a cure in between the mattress and box spring because the energy that is closet to you affects you the most. Cures in and around the bed are very common and we see positive results in BSTB Feng Shui).
  • When Illness Is Breast Cancer. Find a doctor who is a specialist. Seek a second opinion. Seek a doctor of Oriental medicine. If all of this fails, or as a reference, seek holistic healing. Adjust the Partnership gua (it is symbolic of the Female ) and the T’ai Ch’i/Center (Health) position in your home.
  • When Illness Is Uterine Cancer. Find a doctor who is a specialist. Seek a second opinion. Seek a doctor of Oriental medicine. If all of this fails, or as a reference, seek holistic healing. Then hang a round faceted crystal in the Partnership gua (it is symbolic of the Female and the abdomen).
  • When Illness Is Prostate Cancer. Find a doctor who is a specialist. Seek a second opinion. Seek a doctor of Oriental medicine. If all of this fails, or as a reference, seek holistic healing. Then perform the Ten Fingers Stretch nine times a day, repeating the cycle three times each of the nine times.

The power to heal is yours (thank you, Robert Scott Bell)! If you are not getting the results you envisioned with your current protocol, please contact me to talk, 503-232-2543, I may be of help.

What Matters To The Heart – Six Feng Shui Details To Make Love Last.

“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye”.
– Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Oh, your beautiful heart! Crimson repository of your secrets, it knows what feels right and essential to your happiness. It manifests the dreams you aspire; gives you courage to choose what your eyes desire and fervently pursue whom you adore…. But some times your heart becomes entangled and you can’t find the reason to explore. For Love’s sake, I am sharing six Feng Shui design details to clue you in to what may be derailing your heart. These details are known to sidetrack, hijack and waylay this precious organ of affection. Included with each are individual adjustments to keep your heart healthy and free from undue environmental pressure and stress. Because when it comes to love and life, the simple secret is what matters to the heart.

Piercing heart doors  Three or more doors you could walk through in a straight line. They can create an invisible barrier through the house, which can create a barrier between family members. As it becomes stronger over time, the partners, parents or children become more  and more removed from each other. Hang one or more crystal balls or wind chimes in the center of the rooms between the doors to slow down the ch’i and break down the invisible wall.

Beam over your heart crossing the bed  This feature places pressure on the heart that leads to couples arguing, even over seemingly insignificant details. Move the bed if possible. Or hang nine 40mm crystals (9″, 18″ 27″ from the bottom of the beam) to lift the beam off of the bed. Visualize the crystals lifting the beam.

A knife edge that comes at the bed  Poison arrows are called  “sha ch’i”. This poison arrow may be directed at one of the partners. They in turn may feel criticized and act defensive. Hang a 40mm crystal in increments of nine (9″ 18″ 27″) from the ceiling in front of the offending corner. Visualize the crystal diffusing the negative Ch’i of the arrow.

Stairway in the center of the house  Stairways conduct Ch’i from one level to another. When there is more than one level life is more complicated; maybe more ups and downs, illness and loss of money. Health issues may result causing one or both partners to lose time from work. Doctors’ bills rising and minimal income, partners may argue over money. Hang a large mirror at the top of the stairs to lift the Ch’i. Visualize the movement of the stairs is stabilized and assets and health coming into balance.

A bed on a door wall  Partners may be plagued by anxiety and migraines. One of them may even develop heart arrhythmia. Move the bed if possible. If not, place a mirror on the opposite wall from the bed to reflect the bedroom door entrance. This will relax the mind and smooth out the Ch’i.

Biting doors at the entrance to the MBR  Doors that are slightly out of alignment with one another may result in conflict between partners. If they are mis-aligned by exactly one half, not only verbal but physical fighting may arise. Over a prolonged period this weakens the heart. Place objects, such a mirror next to both doors. This draws the eyes simultaneously to the adjustment as you exit either door.

The K.I.S.S. of Good Health

Do you believe that being healthy is only about being mobile? That as long as you can stand up, go to work, do your job, make time for family, go on a two week vacation every year, that is health? It’s an old paradigm, It keeps your health a mystery and you are powerless to influence the course it takes. Eventually a crisis takes you by surprise which costs you time and money, as you lie debilitated in a hospital bed, never suspecting that you needed to learn how to live and master ways of seeing the world to create good health.

Now consider this: your thoughts, the state of your emotions and stress cause your good health or poor health. That changes what health is, doesn’t it? Dr. John Hagelin, quantum physicist, shares, “Happier thoughts lead to a essentially healthier bio-chemistry and a healthier, happier body. Negative thoughts, stress, have been shown to seriously degrade the body and the function of our brain. Because it is our thoughts and emotions that are continuously reassembling, reorganizing, recreating our body.”

At this very moment if you are having a health setback you have the power to shift the outcome by a shift in your thoughts and emotions. Even if you are feeling well, you can maintain your vitality by implementing a daily practice. These are simple, short and I hope you think, sweet things you can start doing today to feel the effects of more happiness and the K.I.S.S. of good health.

Keep in tune with your emotions.

  • Take time to check in when you are happy, angry, depressed or sad. You may not be able to respond to what caused the feelings nor would it be appropriate, but acknowledging them allows the emotion to move through your body. This practice keeps you tuned up and all of your systems humming. And even better, you are less likely to even catch a cold. Feng Shui solution: if you are distressed by your emotional state, tap your head 108 times. It will help you to get clear about what is causing the intense emotions. You may need to do it two more times for a total of 324 times but well worth the good night’s sleep when you go to bed that night.

Invite awareness.

  • Turn on your inner compass. Unplug. Go for a stroll. Look for something new in your neighborhood. Say hello to a stranger. Immerse yourself in the moment and appreciate it’s magic by feeling the temperature of the air, the sun on your face and the depth of your breathing. This expands your consciousness and opens neural pathways for creative problem solving. You get to the solution quicker with the most desired results. Feng Shui solution: place a mirror in front of you where you sit at your desk to open your perspective.

Stimulate your senses. Switch things up.

  • The senses are extraordinary but they can be dulled by monotony. Eat something pungent like Indian curry for breakfast. Listen to classical music if all you play is soft rock. Spend three hours in an art museum if you  continuously watch T.V. If you have an aversion to a certain smell like popcorn, sit with a bag and explore what that really is. Maybe it’s connected to an experience, a memory and it’s not the popcorn at all. Feng Shui solution to adjust the Ch’i by sense of touch: one of H.H. Lin Yun’s favorite adjustments is to place a piece of fur on your banister. When you, a family member or guest touch it, the difference in texture startles you and wakes up your Ch’i.

Smile often and without a reason. Feel grateful.

  • Expressing gratitude cultivates happiness. When you appreciate what you have it appreciates in value. It’s not about more and buying new things, it is loving what is already in your life, that being the good health and prosperity you are experiencing right now. Announce to the Universe how much you love you, your family, your pets, your friends and your coworkers. It will exponentially improve your relationships and the love you send, comes back to you. The added bonus, it boosts your immune system. Feng Shui solution: H.H. Lin Yun expressed that when we perform a kind deed, this act of love is generosity in action. Not only does it uplift the Ch’i of the person who receives the kindness but the person who does the kind deed. Performing a kind act daily expedites your Feng Shui cures.

Feng Shui Safety Checklist For Your Home

Safety might be the last thing you connect to Feng Shui design.

Imagine walking a tight rope. Would you feel anxious, nervous, frightened, think you are going to fall? Very likely. This experience is no different to your brain than a corner that acts like a finger pointing at you, making an accusation. Or a wall that blocks your way and throws you off kilter or a small, dark, confined entry that pounds upon your head. Your body’s first response is to feel nervous, anxious and unsafe. Next your body will bring your attention to the matter by sending a smoke signal to your emotions. If that doesn’t get a response, you’ll find yourself getting sick. What a thread, one scenario can cause.

As a Feng Shui consultant I look for how I can help you understand your unique living arrangement and make your home more suitable for your personal lifestyle, maintain your good health, harmonize your relationships and create overall peace of mind.

When a client calls often they have a crisis on their hands. A daily drama they’ve tolerated for months, maybe years, erupts and no longer do they have the coping skills to deal with it. I tell them the good news is there is a Feng Shui solution. And I want you to know that too.

Here is a little mantra that I share. It is BIG in empowerment and leads to real change: “your home is your second body”. If you are feeling worried, carry vague anxieties around in your head, don’t sleep well at night, suffer from a chronic health issue, lose money and are overlooked for a raise or job you want, it’s not “just life”.

Wouldn’t you love an alternative to “just life”, one that makes you feel secure, stable and balanced? Feng Shui adjustments actively address problem areas in your home, create stability, power up your energy and give you confidence to handle what life delivers.

Is your home Feng Shui safe? If you suspect it’s causing some of your problems or you feel uneasy, here’s a mini checklist to determine if you have imbalances and how they are affecting you. There are more than I can list here but it’s a good way to get started and expand your thinking about safety in your home.

Feng Shui Safety Checklist

Accidents and Bloodshed

  • A door that is nailed shut suggests a hole in your physical body.
  • Seeing the stove through the kitchen door from the front door can cause illness, surgery that involves bloodshed.
  • Shoes left at the front in disarray can cause unexpected events and accidents.
  • Anything in front of the bed, furniture that is too large in the room can cause you to stumble and fall.
  • A bed that faces out of the bedroom door and you face the stove, that position can cause an accident or illness involving serious bleeding.
  • A stove that backs up to a desk causes danger which can involve an accident.

Arguments with family members

  • Split at the front door: the brain is stimulated unevenly, the two sides begin to lack coordination. You may think more and act less, or the opposite, you may act more and think less. Either situation, an imbalance is created which can create illness along the midline, confusion, and an inability to make decisions. There can be endless arguing, even violence.
  • Too many doors in a hallway: a door represents a mouth. Here is an opportunity for arguments to ensue among you and your partner or you and your child.
  • Biting doors: doors which are slightly out of alignment with one another create a split and this may create a trauma. There may be conflict between parents, or arguments between the parents and children. You may lose your friends. Where you work you may experience internal strife, power plays, and back stabbing.
  • Arguing doors: doors that bump up against one another when they are opened create conflict and they are especially offensive at the front door. Conflict may spread throughout, affecting everyone who comes into the house even people outside with whom you interact.

Health Issues

  • Bathroom in the middle of the house can drain your life’s resources. Not only poor health may make your family suffer, years on end but into future generations.
  • Blocking wall at the front door will have you feeling blocked from moving forward in your career. Health wise your shoulders start to round down over your heart and lungs causing back, heart and respiratory difficulties.
  • Stairs that ends too close to a wall or door may inhibit the flow of ch’i both in your home and your body. You and your family may be blocked in some way, physically, emotionally, and perhaps your career.
  • A toilet back to back with a bed can create an unusual, uncommon or undiagnosed illness which can take it’s toll on the resources of a family.

Money Troubles

  • Fireplace in the middle of the house will burn up money, create infamy instead of fame and your career may slow to a trickle. Feeling hopeless, your happiness may be reduced to indecision and doubt, depleting your vitality.
  • Blocking wall at the front door may find you struggling in your career and you may entirely fail.
  • Contrary door is when a front door opens into a wall rather than the room. You may work hard and not enjoy the results of your labor. Life could become exhausting and filled with disappointment.
  • House below the street: every exit will feel difficult to get up and get out. You may become more and exhausted each day. You can lose time and energy. It greatly affects your ability to begin or follow through on any project.
  • Trapezoid lot that narrows at the back can also bring unfortunate luck over time. The wealth gua is in the far back left corner and if it is diminished in size that will affect incoming flow of money.

Need to see it to understand? Here is a link to Floor Plans Matter, examples of common design details and how they affect occupants’ Ch’i. Perhaps you will recognize your home in one of this.
