May 26 New Moon. Horse Sense.

“When your heart speaks, take good notes.”
– Judith Campbell

May 26 new moon the friendly, passionate Horse came to the forefront of the Chinese zodiac. With a zeal for life, those born under the Year of the Horse are warm-hearted, fervent and generous. Horse is a loyal companion and consistently there for their friends. Patient when it comes to hearing out what other people have to say, they excel at resolving conflicts, their own and most everyone else’s. Their independent nature and unwavering vitality are key characteristics that help them survive obstacles. Interestingly these traits are the bulwarks that support their rise to the top of their career.

In the Chinese zodiac Horse rules the time between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. In Chinese medicine this time is ruled by the Heart. 2017 has posed challenges for humankind. Our collective heart is speaking. It is saying spread more love and compassion. Call on your super power, compassion. Give away your patience, your ear, your time and  your heart. In spreading good deeds, acts of compassion form a shield against arguments and tension. Negative energy cannot incubate in an atmosphere of kindness.

It is Chinese summer. The fruit is ready. What delectable harvest might you enjoy this month? Rat: you are in direct conflict with the sign of the month. Set the dial high on your radar. You may encounter unexpected lawsuits and accidents. Best advice: maintain a low profile and be conservative. Ox: you and the Horse are in the most confrontational relationship this month. Pay attention to your health. Be aware that disasters could come out of nowhere. Err on the side of caution and be conservative rather than taking big steps. Tiger: you are in the Three Harmony this month. Helpful people will be assisting you. Revel in the glow of prosperity in your wealth and career. Ride the wind, let things flow and good fortune will find you. Rabbit: luck is not good this month. You may find that matters will be difficult to navigate. Wait for better timing. Chanting the Heart Sutra mantra morning and night will help you maintain peace and a serene frame of mind. Dragon: helpful people will assist  you in attaining your goals. Not only career,  you can expect to gain profits and expand your wealth. Be mindful of partnering with zodiac signs who are not compatible with your own. Conflict will likely show up later. Snake: your luck is laser like this month. Be mindful of business relationships with new friends, you could be taken advantage of and lose money. Horse: best to see things with a philosophical perspective. Safeguard your home and household. Be cautious, be conservative, do not be careless. Think before speaking and avoid vanity and greed. Ram: the month is a six harmony month. You will have the best luck of the year. Stay the course in all your endeavors. Watch for illness and accidents. Monkey: good time for your affairs to fall into a routine. Be cautious and modest and you will avoid scoundrels. Rooster: a month to turn your gaze onto peace and tranquility. Take the high ground and do not gossip or put your nose into other folks’ affairs. Advice: chant The White Robe Kuan Yin mantra. Dog: your persistences pays off, helpful people will back you, luck is at its best. Don’t let trivial things nor petty people bother you. Take more time to relax. Pig: concentrate on your career. Changing jobs is not recommended at this time. If you become sick, seek medical attention immediately. Avoid attending to the bereaved or going to funerals. If you request a cure from this forecast, I will ask you to honor the red envelope tradition. Have a great month, Zodiac friends!

September 30 New Moon I Selfless Before Selfie

“Did you know that there are over three hundred words for love in canine?”
— Gabrielle Zevin

September 30 the “selfless before selfie” Chinese Zodiac animal wagged its way onto the horizon. Every month the leading zodiac holds a super power that can help us expand our awareness and reach our full potential. Dog has a multitude of exemplar traits so which do we choose? Its friendly nature? Faithful character? Smart brain? Straightforward manner? Venerable composure? Responsible attitude? Or is it our four footed friends’ “bow wow practice” that they have mastered so effortlessly? Bowing to the divine in their owners and feeling the wow of devotion. This simple act of expressing unconditional love creates strong bonds and gratifying relationships that can help you through difficult times. And maybe too that caring about what happens to another is all you need to feel good throughout the day. For us humans it might be easier to understand the love of dog by watching this Tonglen Meditation of Compassion performed by Tulku Tsori Rinpoche.

Will this month be pets and praises or dog poop? Discover what the stars are saying and how they can help. Rat: what you are working on goes smoothly and as you planned. Your fame will be outstanding and both family and romance will go well. Consider refraining from verbal disputes and avoid communication that creates misunderstandings or you may experience unexpected disaster. Ox: a good month to remain low key in the areas of investing, career changes and hosting a grand opening. There is a larger margin for interpersonal disputes. Keep your impulses in check. Be mindful that others may see through your schemes. Tiger: it’s a Three Harmony month!  Your luck will be auspicious. Wealth will be available but do not be greedy. Let Nature take its course and then money will emerge. Maintaining a benevolent heart and doing good deeds benefits your family and you will gather in fame, profits and much good fortune. Rabbit: lots of money lucky bunny so take advantage of the full throttle Ch’i to support your investments or partnerships. Romance will be smooth sailing. Dragon: it’s a month of Direct Conflict. It there is money loss consider it as a way to maintain the peace. Be on the look out for car accidents, illness and refrain from associating with folks who will demoralize you. Perform a good deed a day and be willing to help others. A “single act of benevolence avoids a thousand evils.” It’s the antidote to disaster. Spread it around generously. Snake: “Heaven helps a good man.” Helpful People are at your assistance. Your endeavors demonstrate luck, prosperity and ease. If you establish a new business or take a trip abroad, both will be profitable. If you are offered a joint venture do not reject but rather go with the flow. Horse: gaiety and joy will be in abundance. Your career will flourish, your assets will rise and progress will be smooth in all endeavors. Keep a calm outlook and remember that matters can be resolved through good communication. Ram: a month of Mutual Offense with possible adversities so avoid going out for a walk at night and beware of thieves. If you come across a dangerous situation, chant the “Five Thunders” mantra for protection. Monkey: you are in a Mutually Offensive and the Most Confrontational relationships. You must be extra, extra careful this month. Do not take trips, purchase real estate, change careers, start a new business or host a grand opening. Rooster and Dog fight so you may expect disharmony in your relationships. You may quarrel with your spouse or loved one you are dating. At work you may experience personal disputes. Practice forbearance and see harmony as fundamental to your everyday interactions. Perform “The Golden Cicada Sheds Its Shell” at the beginning of the lunar month to avoid disaster. September 1 New Moon I Be True To Yourself

“Impossible is not a declaration, it’s a dare.”
–Muhammad Ali

September 1 new moon, the high stepping Rooster with his vermillion crest and forthright manner strode onto the Zodiac main stage. Divine creature that calls in the new dawn, Rooster lives up to his colorful attitude as well as his honest nature as expressed by the ancient scholar, Tian Rao. “The five virtues of the Rooster…. The Rooster dons a crimson cap, a mark of literary sophistication! It claws its enemies, what martial prowess! It calls to its cohorts when food is available, a creature of compassion! It fights to the death with its nemesis, what bravery! And it never fails to keep time, a trustworthy soul.” What is unique about rooster is its ability to keep time for humans which leads the Chinese to the conclusion there is a divine spark in the rooster that makes it capable of this unique task.”

The great Ali portrayed many of Rooster’s exceptional characteristics with authenticity being his most outstanding trait. He leaves a legacy for us all, “be true to yourself’”. For when you stand true to your heart nothing is impossible and the grit built from your integrity is the foundation for manifesting your dreams.

In China Feng Shui practitioners paint a red Rooster on the walls of a house for protection from fire or a white one to safeguard the home from demons.

How To Manifest Peace

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster’, I hear my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing there are so many helpers–so many caring people in the world.”
Mr. Rogers

The tragedies that have pierced the heart of the world were such a force that I had to step back these past several weeks to think deeply how Feng Shui may empower us to create a world that is safe. The story we tell this time of year is about peace, goodwill towards all. I asked myself, “How do we maintain a peaceful coexistence throughout the year?” “Build it into the world!” whispered in my ear.

It is through H. H. ‘Professor’ Lin Yun rich legacy of Feng Shui and dharma teachings that I am able to share this wisdom with you. I have selected six Feng Shui precepts that I believe will help us to help each other live under an umbrella of peace. At the least may they be a foundation to harmonize our hearts and mend strained relations and not just the United States, but around the world too. Because when we show we care, we feel safe.

Solidarity In a sense right now we are all vulnerable. Professor Lin said planting bamboo will help vulnerable areas. Bamboo is an uprising force. It provides support. It can drive away negative forces and has the power to suppress evil Ch’i over time. Bamboo is hollow and soft inside, these characteristics symbolizes humility. When you plant bamboo, you add that quality to your own nature. You create solidarity and help your neighbors, near and far, when you place bamboo or the imagery of bamboo in your home and/or plant bamboo on your property. It will wrap its long limbs of peace and safety around you.

Safety New homes that consume an entire lot are on the rise in major and mid-sized cities. They create pressure among neighbors. Everyone feels the narrow space and tight fit. Like a pressure cooker that has to release steam an adjustment to your home can deflect a crisis before it happens. Plant greenery, especially plants with colorful flowers in your lot, both front and back yard. The colors release the pressure of being crowded. It is also vital we maintain our city parks and not let them be sold to developers. Stay up to date on city policy and stay closely connected to your neighborhood associations.

Stillness Take time to be still and shake off negativity by meditating. Start with chanting. The Sanskrit chant, Om mani padme hum, has been practiced all around the world for thousands of years. As you chant and meditate you may realize you have all the power, clarity and the omniscience of the Buddha. If you do not ascribe to the Buddha, then place your focus on God or your higher power. As you practice meditating you unify your inner being, your heart comes into coherence. You let go of divisiveness and inner conflict which is the pathway to peace.

Softness His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama has often expressed that feeling warm-hearted allows him to smile and be happy even in the company of strangers. Being kind and nice towards others creates an atmosphere  for them to be kind in return. A smile works wonders in a potentially unfamiliar situation. When you can help another person feel at ease neither you or they feel alone. Your lives become much easier. Practice kindness, sympathy and generosity daily.

Simple beauty A son and father interviewed after the Bataclan attack. The son is fearful the gunmen may return and he wants to leave. His father speaks calmly to him and says, “They may have guns but we have flowers.” The son feels reassured comforted and a look of peace washes over his face.

In 2007, Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D. of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital and her research team investigated the effects of flowers in the home. Flowers foster compassion. Participants noted that they felt influenced by flowers emotionally, causing them to feel kindness and more compassion for others. Looking at flowers first thing in the morning, particularly in the kitchen, dissipates anxiety and feelings of depression. Having flowers at home can have a positive carry-over impact on your mood at work too. They energize your time at work.

In the Chinese culture flowers served as a significant vehicle of communication. They convey epic messages that express powerful positive emotions. A peony, the national flower, stands tall and symbolizes prosperity, happiness and peace. Plum blossoms, the harbinger of spring, represent firmness and solidity. The lotus whispers, that which may not be sullied. Chrysanthemums brave the frost to bloom in a vast array of colors. The narcissus is known as ‘the fairy over ripples’. They speak of the correct way of living, indicating being clean and healthy. If you want a flower’s quality to support your endeavor, display a picture purchase flowers and usher in the force they represent. For those suffering from acid reflux Professor Lin shared The Flower Cure.

Self Care If you are suffering from stress or depression caused by the tragedies or you can’t quite put your finger on what the stress is but you feel pressure, make an adjustment in Helpful People. It could be the house, office, bedroom, or any Helpful People gua. If you need more strength, place three cures, one in each of three places. If you live in an apartment, one could be the home, bedroom, and desk. If you live in a home with property, you can adjust the bedroom, house and lot.

Five Holiday Giving Ideas That Reclaim The Spirit Of The Season.

“You’ve always had the power, my dear. You’ve had it all along. You are capable of more than you know.”
– Glinda, The Good Witch Of The North, The Wizard Of Oz.

I danced around the house the day of the TV screening of The Wizard of Oz. I fell in love with kindly Glinda. I wanted Dorothy’s dark curls and ruby slippers. Scraggly Scarecrow, the melancholy Tin Man, the silly Lion and scrappy Toto filled my child’s imagination. It was all I needed at the time, but the story said so much more. It took 40 years for me to understood the power in it: your rewards in life are not so much about the adventures but the characters who become friends. They do not slide into your life by accident, they have the one unique skill that will burn the witch when you are under fire. Because of their love, generosity, grace and good-heartedness you survive in this world. And you are this gift for someone too. The holidays are almost here. Will the spirit get buried in the hustle and bustle this year? I’ve put together five holiday giving ideas that, I believe, reclaim the spirit of the season.

A reminder of why.
“Some thoughts as we enter the holiday season…It is important to remember that not everyone is surrounded by large wonderful families. Some of us have problems during the holidays and sometimes are overcome with great sadness when we remember the loved ones who are not with us. And, many people have no one to spend these times with and are besieged by loneliness. We all need caring, loving thoughts right now. Share this to give a moment of support to all those who have family problems, health struggles, job issues, worries of any kind and just need to know that someone cares. Do it for all of us, for nobody is immune.”
–Facebook post

Do it for all of us.
Dorothy did have the power but it was the good heartedness of her friends that got her back to Kansas. The same can be said of our collective goodwill and personal abundance, they are dependent upon each other. Rather than keep the power, we stimulate more good when we give it away. We have an opportunity to turn one life or a community around this holiday season. These five holiday giving ideas keep everyone’s spirit up and our spirit alive.

  • Love
Spread your heart. Fear and hopelessness come from feeling isolated. Giving your partner, family member or friend a twenty-two second hug releases the bonding hormone and neurotransmitter oxytocin, which is nature’s anti-depressant and anti-anxiety drug. For a stranger, give them a grin, it’s a gesture they won’t forget.
  • Forgiveness
Rewrite your story. Is there a grievance with a friend that hasn’t been resolved? Call or write them a letter. Sincerely express your feelings. Ask for forgiveness. You may change their heart and definitely you will have changed the past for a better future. If you need a prompt, here is the loving forgiveness prayer of  Ho’oponopono written by Dr. Joe Vitale: “I love you, I’m sorry, forgive me, thank you.”
  • Kindness
Stop your humbug. Simple gestures performed with compassion create miracles. Pay a compliment, share your seat on the bus, play with a child or walk an elder across the street. This spreads a contagion of abundance and interconnectedness that is needed most right now.
  • Generosity
Give your time. Treat holiday panic by doing something for someone who could never repay you. Serve soup at a homeless shelter. Adopt an assisted living care resident for the holidays. Converse with them, read a story, bring a gift. Involve your children with making handmade gifts for the Christmas bazaar or prepare dinner once a week for a shut-in neighbor. Engaging your hands with your heart feels good.
  • Peace
Calm your heart. You don’t need to take on the ills of the world nor even one person’s misfortune, but when you give a bit of loving kindness, your generosity, your time, your talent you give a bigger gift: you expand borders from your heart to another and you defeat depression and build community. Performing good deeds with no expectation creates peace and that makes things right with the world.

Gifts for you.
I received such an overwhelmingly positive response to these two blogs last year that I am sharing them with you: Take Back The Holiday. Look East To Savor Thanksgiving Dinner With Six Feng Shui Trimmings and Restoring Grace: A Ritual To Replenish Your Spirit During The Holidays.

Blessings for an abundant November!
