Light Up Your Great Ideas With Feng Shui

“If you can dream it, you can do it.”
– Walt Disney

Your home is not only a place to eat, sleep, grow your family and live out your life. Like a blank canvas waiting for color and inspiration, your home embodies a silent, subtle world that surrounds you. Intangible but palpable, it is the space that defines the rooms and encompasses your furnishings. It is the space that once is activated by turning the couch on an angle or painting a wall red or adding a bright light to the front door, is poised to help you light up your great ideas which one day may include taking a chance on something new.

I am hearing folks talk about the hard truths of 2020. They are passionate about telling their stories and up-leveling their purpose. They are writing books with compelling messages; developing brands to reflect a growing ecological kinship to the earth; planning service strategies that will support their new mission. They are trusting their higher guidance and they want to share it. If you are part of this mindfulness revolution or even dare to take your career on a new path, then let the details from the arrangement of your rooms, the flowers on your desk, the color of your walls, the images you have placed, let these personal items reflect the excitement, the dedication and engagement you give to your work everyday.

All it takes is calibrating your home to what you desire. Before launching your great idea, look around, does your home and home office reflect your value? A new desk placement can change your point of view and bring in a steady flow of income. The right color can inspire your creativity. Let your authentic self shine with Feng Shui.

Create Powerful Momentum For What Is To Come
Take Command Of Your Space
Command position is where you sit at your desk so you can see the door but not be in line of the door. And good desk placement is the mainstay in developing your ideas and services. Here are several distinguished nuances that could set your career on a trajectory for success.
– Face the door wall with your desk is in command This desk position suggests work will be steady.
– Face the side wall but still in a command position. Projects, clients, income, work will come in cycles. You may work hard for a few days or months and then have time for a vacation or simply to slow down. Ideal for a writer.
– Place your desk on an angle. If you want things to move more quickly consider moving your desk to an angled position. You can enhance this position by placing a light that shines on the desk from behind. You can also place a plant in the corner behind the desk. Or you can hang the Ten Emperor Coins with the two bamboo flutes from the Yun Lin Temple on each wall of the corner. However there is a caveat: if you do not have support to take the next steps or don’t have the financial backing to expand quickly, the placement may actually bankrupt you.
– Place your desk with a wall too close in front of you and your open-mindedness and creativity may diminish. Your learning may be slower and you may not acquire a broad range of knowledge. However if there are no other alternate choices, place a mirror on the wall in front of you or place a picture with depth or place a picture of your deity in front of you.
– Sit at your desk with a wall behind you, you will receive support and you will feel supported. You can enhance this position by sitting in a chair that has a solid back and you may receive solid advice from friends and advisors.
– Sit where there is not enough room behind you and you may not be able to turn things around when they get difficult. You may become cornered. You may lose your power and your perspective. You may not leave yourself enough room to turn around or change directions. Things may get very difficult. Make sure you have enough room behind you and if you don’t, move the desk forward.

Speak To Your Strengths
Launching a book or website you want all your forces to support you, that includes a strong front door (the mouth of Ch’i). If your front door does not face the street, it could be what is called a “hidden front door”. This position takes your voice away from the world. Opportunities do not come easily. Isolated is a manifested fear from this design detail.
– Light the top of the Hidden door with a light placed on the ground just opposite the door. It does not have to be turned on.
– Hang a wind-chime at the front door.
– Carefully mark the path to the front door, so there is no confusion.

Enhance Your Creativity
Every aspect of your profession, service or artistry is a creative endeavor. Add the colors, white, black and green to your home office or where you brainstorm and download ideas. Green plants, flowering plants but fruiting plants in particular will enhance your career.

Reinforce Your Career (Trigram)
Purchase either a wind chime or a 40mm faceted crystal ball. Place it on your altar for nine nights. On the tenth day walk the sacred object to each trigram position of the house or office. Upon arriving at the gua, spin the crystal or shake the wind chime. When complete, walk to the center then you will be assured you have life covered. Visualize all of life’s problems are covered. When you adjust the center you want to visualize that everything is covered. Then you can hang the crystal ball in the center of the gua that needs enhancement. If you are going to adjust Career visualize you are bringing the knowledge with you, you are bringing fame with you, you are bringing helpful people with you to the Career gua so you can move forward. Visualize all the auspicious chi, visualize in with the good and out with the bad, everything is getting better and better. Visualize you have more time to give to your Career and the appropriate salary or compensation, Visualize the color of the Career gua (black). Visualize your job offer is a good package and an appropriate salary. Visualize the color of the gua as you are adding the adjustment.

Steady Your Focus
Tapping the Head three times day (108 times per round) will help you steady yourself and concentrate. The excessive Ch’i is drawn out of the brain. This method is helpful to perform at night when counting sheep has failed.

Calm Your Mind
Calm is often underrated however it is the underpinnings of inspiration when offering your services and running your business. A calm attitude engenders new ideas and insights on how to execute them.
– Color speaks the language of the brain. Wear green to calm your heart. If you or a friend’s emotions are all over the place this refreshing color will help relax (always remember to set your intention) your heart. Earth colors like yellow, brown and orange are calming as well.
– Place a Yu bowl under your bed under your heart to build trust. It allows you to trust yourself and trust what is happening around you.
– Place a red circle that has your name that you wrote on one side with a new black pen and the word “stability” on the other side. Hold your breath while you write these. Next place the red circle either under your heart under your bed or under your office chair with the word stability facing the floor to stay more calm as you create and expand your ideas.

Follow Your Impulses
Place a windmill on your property in the Family Gua to stimulate ideas for new projects.

Build Your Reputation
Red is the color of the Fire element and the Fame gua. Red is an energy source, a stimulator and a way of expelling bad Ch’i. If your reputation has been maligned, if you want to enhance your fame or if you desire to extend your reach beyond the city in which you work, paint a red wall in the Fame gua and set your intention accordingly. If that does not work with your decor plant a conifer in your back yard, the triangle is the shape that represents Fire. Or place an affirmation in the Fame gua of your home that is framed in red.

Perform 9 good deeds in one day. And continue to perform one good deed a day for 27 days. This practice will enhance the Feng Shui in your home. Abundance is synonymous with giving. The key is to help another selflessly.

Enhance Your Feng Shui
When you perform a cure, envision that you are at the juncture between heaven and earth, this visualization enables you to receive universal chi to help you overcome all your obstacles.

How Emotions Are Decorating Your Space

“An interior is the natural projection of the soul.”
– Coco Chanel

Decorating should be the fun part of moving and home improvement but if everyday something comes up, you feel anxious, some event triggers an unhappy thought and you just can’t get started…your emotions are decorating your space. Here is what Jeanette discovered. Her family decided to move across country so her husband could take a new position and they could be closer to her parents. She had one week to choose a home for her family. The home she fell in love with had vaulted ceilings, a view of the back yard from the front door, a large master suite that stretched from front to back, a three car garage…it was certainly the right neighborhood and the school was perfect for her children. Once they settled into the new house she thought everything would be as before. But the stress of moving never dissipated. A barrier progressively developed between she and her husband. They were silent at the dinner table and he stopped coming home at reasonable hours. Her 13 year old son did not like sleeping in his room. It was so good before the move, what happened?

Wanting to find the husband she had lost, to help her son stop his nightly wandering and bring some happiness to herself, she called me for help. Jeanette’s story is a powerfully moving scenario and not unlike the stories clients share expressing their profound loss and disbelief over what has happened to the life they once had. She had read several Feng Shui books. She suspected the emotional issues between she and her husband, her son’s distraction and her moodiness were stemming from her home. And she admitted she didn’t feel good being there. When I shared what I saw, my words immediately resonated with her. She had no trouble making a plan and her next step would be decorating using Feng Shui design.

I believe design education goes a long way in creating awareness that our home influences our well-being. With that in mind, I composed this Feng Shui guide to help you make better choices when deciding on your new nest. And if you are already settled in your space, you might recognize one or two design features that may be limiting your freedom and curbing your peace of mind.

Want a picture? Here is a helpful companion blog on floor plans, “Unraveling Your Home’s Floor Plan With Feng Shui.

Depletion That Paints You Into A Corner
• A hidden front door is when you cannot see the door from the street. Feelings of isolation can develop over time. What Professor Lin would call “strange chi.” At an office there may be loss of income, feeling frustration, depression and loss of motivation.
• An obstacle (blocking tree, wall, utility pole or column) at the front door can limit opportunities.
• Double doors can create confusion, especially if the door to enter is not marked properly.
• A slanted front door creates a slant on daily interactions that explode into unexpected events related to all areas of life.
• A blocking wall inside the front door can impede the forward movement of everyone in the household. Everyone may struggle with their career. Faith in the future may be lost.
• Front door /back door alignment may possibly create a split through the whole house. The closer the doors the worse this patten is. Parents may feel a barrier between them and lead separate lives. Parents and children lose touch. Money may leak and opportunities dry up. Money, motivation, reputation, health and good luck may fly out the back door.
• A split at the front door can affect all areas of life dramatically. The brain is activated unevenly and the two sides will start to lack coordination. The inhabitant may act more and think less. Or think more and act less. In either situation there is an imbalance. As a result illness along the midline can development. Also confusion and the lack of sound decision making can cost a family their health or business. Non-stop arguing and violence can result with a split at the front door. Extreme marital, family and business interactions can take place here.
• A split stairway (typical of split level homes) aka Mandarin duck stairway creates an environment where everything begins to fall apart; it can even shatter a person’s peace of mind. The different levels affect partners where they are more likely to experience miscommunication or not speak at all; children have difficulty feeling accepted; finances fluctuate wildly. Invariably health is unstable. When it is a company and affects all the employees, the consequences can be disastrous.

Bad Luck That Colors Your Morale
• Seeing a cemetery, a morgue or a deserted house from your front door may bring illness and sudden expected disasters.
• If your home is at end of a “double T” intersection your luck may dwindle in all areas but in particular health and finances.
• A narrow driveway or path. The opportunity to expand your heart and mind may never happen. And if you see opportunity you won’t be able to grasp it, feeling shut down.
• A toilet over the front door brings bad luck to the entire household or business.
• A stove that is backed up to the toilet that is on the other side of the wall affects your luck to the point it may run out.
• A dead door is a door that is nailed shut or that cannot be opened. This feature may stifle’s one’s voice completely. If the original door has been closed there can be a sudden downturn in fortune or slow loss of resources.

Details That Design Conflict
• Arguing Doors are two doors that when they are open bump up against one another. The clashing is jarring to the senses and disturbs the inhabitants equilibrium. Conflict results. It may run throughout the house.
• Biting Doors are doors that are out of alignment with one another. Visualize walking out of your bedroom and seeing part of a door entry and part of a wall. This design feature creates a split and has the effect of a front door split. Biting doors create discord between parents and parents and children. In a child’s room it can create a bully. You may lose friends and neighbors can turn into enemies. In an office setting there may be gossip, back stabbing and power struggles. Biting doors at the front door are especially detrimental as the conflict and verbal fighting can reach into the neighborhood.
• Piercing Heart Doors are three or more doors which you could walk in a straight line. They create an invisible obstacle through the house which impedes relations between partners, partners and their children and between siblings. Alienation and separation tear the family apart.
• Many doors opening into a small space. I think we all have this one, especially around the bedrooms and bathroom. A door is a “mouth”. This area can be especially noisy because all the voices are trying to speak at once. Listening is difficult and family members may end up quarreling. This design feature is the underpinnings for health issues, particularly the digestive organs.
• Too many doors in relationship to the windows and the adult voice may be too powerful. This ratio may silence the voice of the children. In a business situation management (the adult) may not heart the feedback of employees (the children). There may be a conflict of wills.
• Too few doors in relationship to the windows and the children may create havoc. On the job, employees may strike or rebel.

Architecture That Exhausts All Your Emotional Resources
• A door that is below the level of the street make every movement feel like an uphill climb. Time becomes altered and energy depleted. There is an inability to follow through and complete projects.
• A contrary door is a door that opens to a wall instead of the main part of the room. Everyone who lives in the house may find they are laboring and not enjoying the results of their work. They may feel exhausted and disappointed most of the time.
• If a stove is in line with the front door, family problems may never be resolved. There is constant worry and pressure which can exhaust everyone who lives there.
• If a bedroom is the first room an inhabitant sees when entering the house, they may be too tired to take care of their responsibilities and daily duties.

Exterior And Interiors That Are Blueprints For Illness
• An industrial park or factory next door may be overwhelming. The distraction and pollution create physical and mental imbalances. Being empty at night they create a yin presence. All of this affects your ability to concentrate, be clear and effective.
• A bathroom in the center of the house or office can deplete all life situations. Poor health can plague every inhabitant year after year, effecting succeeding generations.
• A fireplace in the center of the house can burn up money, create infamy and heat up passion so it is burns outside the house, drying up your creative juices. The flow of your career may come to a drizzle and your inner growth may be non-existent. Your vitality is depleted and your emotional capacity to lift your life to joy is severely restrained.
•A stairway that ends too close to a wall may impede the flow of Ch’i in the building and the bodies of the inhabitants. You may feel blocked physically, emotionally and in your career.

If you want to receive a cure for any one of these design features, I will ask you to honor the red envelope tradition.

Unraveling Your Home’s Floor Plan With Feng Shui.

“We shape our dwellings, and afterwards our dwellings shape us.”
– Sir Winston Churchill

Floor Plans might appear cryptic if you don’t know what to look for. To a trained consultant reading a floor plan with “Feng Shui eyes” reveals a rich narrative of the occupants’ lives: a twisted stairway bringing the onset of a heart attack; a contrary door blocking a flourishing career; a detached garage confirming money theft from a relative; a biting door transforming an obedient child into a bully; an empty door sending a partner packing. As truth teller, architectural details disclose the stress, the emotions, the entanglement and worry where the heart of the occupants spill forth onto the blueprint of their home. It takes courage and patience and willingness to believe in what cannot be seen. But when a client chooses to celebrate their life integrating Feng Shui principles, they create balance and renewal in their space and in their life. Their home now receives them, it feels welcoming and their dreams can breathe. What will you choose? Take a look, maybe there is a design detail that reminds you of your home.

If you need only a few questions answered I invite you to check out “Feng Shui A La Carte”. An hour could change your life exponentially.

The list will continue to grow. Please check back for updates.

Piercing Heart Doors
PHD are three or more doors through which you could walk in a straight line. They create an unseen barrier through the house. By their nature they create a barrier between husband and wife, parents and children and between the siblings. As the crevasse widens over the passage of time, it becomes more and more difficult to express love and compassion between husband and wife or parents and children.

Stairway in the center of the house
Life can be complex and come at you fast. A strong center can hold a family or business together. If the center is weakened by a stairway, all life situations will feel like a runaway train. Your
finances will fluctuate uncontrollably. Stability will be compromised leading to worry and angst. And the effects will be exaggerated if the stairway is built after the initial construction. Ch’i can leak from every room and from every occupant. Health will be particularly affected and life could feel like one pitfall after another.

Detached Garage
If the door of the detached building is facing the main house, there are no windows in the back, and there is a light in the Wealth corner of the lot shining back to the main house, you will keep your wealth. But without the light, a detached garage suggests that one of the spouses or members of the family is keeping money from the other.

Mandarin duck stairway
A front entry with a split stairway represents a major split, tearing apart partners, families, businesses, devastating the occupants. Every situation and relationship start to fall apart. Married couples don’t see eye to eye, children may struggle to find their place, finances fluctuate and health can be taken for a wild ride. Confusion and exhaustion are direct byproducts of this arrangement because life is constantly up and down. There may be no coming to agreement with this arrangement. When this is true for an entire company, it affects all the employees and the effects can bring the company to ruin.

Master bedroom running front to back of the house
The master bath is inclusive of this design detail. Money and resources can leak out of the house.

Hidden front door
A hidden front door is where the door is not visible to the street. This type of front door may find family members, or coworkers (of a business), without opportunity. A door is indicative of a voice. Your front door is your voice to the world. The occupants may not be able to speak up, their voice, in a sense, is choked. At home, “strange” ch’i (feeling/acting isolated) is a symptom of this design detail. At the office this detail is a strong indicator of loss: clientele, income, and motivation. There will be an increase in anger and melancholy.

Master bedroom in front of the front door
If the master bedroom is outside the front door, distraction is characteristic of this design detail. One of the parents may be away from home often. It may be travel, work or that passion has heated up outside of the house.

A front door that opens out
All good fortune may leave the home. This design feature depletes all the resources that the occupants have accrued. Many Florida homes (now by code) open out to allow for safety of exiting during hurricanes. This feature is a detriment to the occupants. Health ch’i, wealth ch’i and good fortune leak from the home.
