“Busy Making Plans” Become Priceless Surprises

“Life happens when you are busy making plans.”
John Lennon

My “busy making plans” was to write a space blessing blog. But this was abruptly tabled last Wednesday when in high density traffic my car was rear ended. The explosion of breaking glass and the helpless feeling that my car was out of my control served to intensify the fear that it was moving without my volition, straight towards an unsuspecting Nissan directly in our path. I say our path, my little Shih Tzu, Coco was my passenger. Moments like these wipe out the sparkle of a friend’s laughter just hours before and the dinner I was cooking in my head. Time eerily stood still. No past. No future. Just the pounding in my ears and the slow motion of my brain trying to comprehend the whirlwind around me while my body ached for safety. By God’s grace it stopped. When the smoke cleared and the damage assessed, the cost was apparent: irreparable automobile loss. The upside, no life was lost: priceless.

Accidents have an uncanny way of rattling your routine. But beyond their inconvenience, powerful truths can emerge like the phoenix rising from the ash. Inside this blog I share “five graces” that have deepened my appreciation for life plus I am passing along two life-saving “Driving Safely Cure” you will definitely want to protect your car.

Detour from plans that keep you busy, slow down. My “busy making plans” for the evening: eat dinner, connect on Facebook and write. But the force of two cars colliding changed all of that. The impact wasn’t just metal crushing metal, this collision impacted my consciousness too. Since the accident I have become acutely aware of another force, a spiritual force of healing I have not felt in this way before. What has arisen is a force of forgiveness and deep gratitude that all involved are here to laugh and hug our loved ones again.

Watch for grace, even when circumstances appear unfavorable. Val stopped her car behind the driver who caused the accident. She may have had plans that evening but her heart told her this was where she needed to be. She kept the other driver company amid the wind and din of traffic. She took him to the hospital after his car was towed and said she would return for me if I needed her. Her compassion lessened the strain of our ordeal.

Expect there is love for you when life explodes into chaos. All of us are doing our best. The outpouring of care and concern and love and advice from family and friends has greatly eased the emotional trauma of this unfortunate occurrence.

Pray for what you want, not for what you see. I would never wish for an accident. And despite the material loss of time and personal transportation, those are incidental to the big picture of what an accident teaches – letting go. If you can let go of controlling the outcome and let your prayers be the standard for what you want, what you see will be the best possible outcome.

Take the high road, even though your circumstances have turned upside down. Throughout this ordeal I have come to appreciate how systems work and the people who serve those systems. I’ve learned the efficiency of our municipal processes in emergency situations and how insurance companies get our lives back on track. And most important I continually am reminded of my attitude and how it influences all of this coming together easily (or not). I attribute this to the philosophy of alignment, Feng Shui.

I am deeply grateful to H. H. Lin Yun for his supreme wisdom for extending Feng Shui beyond the four walls of our home. The “Driving Safely Cures”I perform on every car I have owned. These cures cast a field of protection in and around my automobile. In my heart I know their power prevented an extended trip to the hospital and much worse, a casualty. I want you to receive this protection too! Here are two “Driving Safely Cures” I used on my automobile.

Driving Safely Cure no. 1: Red String on the Steering Wheel
What you need:
9 inches of red string or red ribbon (or a multiple of nine inches)
Procedure:
Place the string under the mattress for nine nights. On the day after the ninth night, tie the string to the steering wheel. Say a prayer from your tradition and visualize the car and its occupants are safe.

Driving Safely Cure no. 2: Crystal Ball
What you need:
1 faceted lead crystal ball, 40mm
9 inches of red ribbon or red string (or a multiple of nine inches)
Procedure: Using a piece of red ribbon or string (cut in a multiple of nine inches), hang a crystal ball from the rear view mirror. Say a prayer from your tradition and visualize that the crystal ball is both absorbing and reflecting the light of Buddha and/or all the auspicious light in the universe. Visualize that the car and its occupants are safe.
